The UPOU Online Degree Programs
Since the new academic year 2010-2011 is fast-approaching, I’m sure prospective students of the University of the Philippines Open University are interested to know more about the different online degree programs offered by the university on the undergraduate and graduate level. Currently, the UPOU offers more graduate programs than undergraduate programs although there are rumors that the UPOU are in the process of adding more undergraduate programs as the demand increases.
Associate in Arts and the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies are the only two online degree programs offered by the UP Open University in the undergraduate level. Although both are online degree programs, the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies also requires students to be physically present during practicums, presentations, practical examinations and others. The Associate in Arts program, on the other hand, has face-to-face classes to supplement the online discussions and course modules but attendance to these are not required.
Although the UP Open University offers a huge number of diploma programs, master’s programs, and doctoral program, the UP Open University is yet to offer mba online. The Diploma Program Offering of the University includes Diploma in Social Work, Diploma in Computer Science, Diploma in Research and Development Management, Diploma in Environment and Natural Resources Management, Diploma in Science Teaching, Diploma in Mathematics Teaching, Diploma in Language and Literacy Education, and Diploma in Social Studies Education.
The UP Open University also offers Master’s Programs including Master in Social Work, Master of Development Communication, Master of Distance Education, Master of Public Health, Master in Hospital Administration, Master of Arts in Nursing, Master of Public Management, Master of Environment and Natural Resources Management, Master of Arts in Education (Language and Literacy Education), Master of Arts in Education (Social Studies), and Master in Information Systems.
The only doctoral program of the UPOU is the Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Physics Education, Mathematics Education).

jack, yes but it really depend on different factors (slot availability, your academic standing, etc.) whether you’ll be admitted as a UPD student.

Hi. I just checked the UPOU website and it does not seem to be updated. When is the deadline for registration for the first semester of 2010 for Associate in Arts and what are the requirements? I would also like to ask if it is possible for someone who passed the UPCAT years ago but had to drop out of UP due to financial difficulties and without filing a leave of absence to ask for readmission and to study at the UPOU? I am currently working as a freelance web content writer and I work everyday for at least 8 to 10 hours a day and am supporting two kids, so I can’t really quit work to finish my studies. Hope you can help me sort this out. Thanks.

The deadline for filing of application for admission (Associate in Arts, BAMS, MPM, PhD) would be on January 30, 2010 (Saturday). Since you have been already been admitted as a student in another UP unit, I think you have to apply as a transfer student. I’m not really sure. The best thing to do is to contact the registrar via e-mail: registrar@upou.edu.ph or admissions@upou.edu.ph. You might also consider applying for Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS).
