Now, I can say it out loud!
Cross posted from my personal blog.

If you’re an avid reader of my blog, you have probably read my entry called, “Pause to Pose
” wherein I narrated my UPCAT 2008 experience. And probably, you’ve seen me blog about the UPCAT 2008 Results, right? Plus, you’ve probably heard / read somewhere that I didn’t qualify to any of my preferred UP Campus.
I thought that University of the Philippines has closed its doors to me.
Luckily, not!
I’m now an approved student of the University of the Philippines, Open University! I just need to wait for my admission package, enroll, pick-up my course materials and I’ll be fine!
My mom got her MPH (Master of Public Health) at UPOU (University of the Philippines, Open University). On the other hand, she took her pre-med course (BS Psychology) at UP Baguio. If I’m not mistaken, I’m the third person from our family to study in UP. First is my mom (who’s ID number starts at 1978), and then came my oldest cousin, who is graduating in the coming days.
I’ll be taking up Associate in Arts (and then would proceed to Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies) at the UPOU this coming academic year. By the way, I’m under the UP Manila Learning Center. I would want to transfer to the UP Diliman Learning Center but the UP Manila LC is much accessible for me.
I’m excited.
Really, excited.
I’ve been looking forward to the results of this since the day that I took the Distance Education Readiness Test (which I took on the same building and room where I took the UPCAT). I was exempted to take the Undergraduate Assesment Test (UgAT) since I have taken the UPCAT 2008 already. They did honor my UPG (University Predicted Grade), which is not bad at all. In fact, I’ve been exchanging e-mails with the OUR (Office of the University Registrar) to follow-up my application. Good thing, they are prompt in replying to e-mails.
The results for the Associate in Arts Program can be found here.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Here are some photos from my trip to the University of the Philippines, Open University in Los Baños, Laguna.

hey congratulations! It’s been a dream of mine to go to UP but I graduated from PUP, I’d like to think that it’s the same so I would usually say that I studied at PUP LOL I was kidding, any school with UP in it is fine with me haha
ok that joke did not do well, I meant to say that I usually say PUP as P(in small voice and almost unheard)UP
congratulations! that’s great news!
Hi, sorry for barging in on you like this.
My brother is a UP Diliman dropout. He dropped out in 2004 because he had to battle cancer. He’s okay now, thank goodness. He’s just starting to get his life together again.
He wants to return to school, but because most of his time is still devoted to visiting doctors, he really doesn’t have time to go back to school in traditional way. He’s thinking of Distance Education. Of course, being a former UP student, he wants to get into UPOU.
But from what I understand, UPOU offers associate degrees, not bachelor degrees. However, in one of your entries, you said that after finishing your associate degree, you will continue your studies to get a bachelor’s degree. May I know exactly how an associate degree holder can earn a bachelor’s degree? Does UPOU offer bachelor’s degree via distance learning, or do you have to enroll in one of UP’s campuses?
I’ll really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
@LR: UPOU offers one bachelor’s degree right now, which is Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS). BAMS is delivered in distance mode but one has to appear for practicum and hands-on courses. You can check this link for more information. Thanks!
how long did you have to wait to get the result of the DE Readiness Test? i’m about to take it this Saturday…
Kai, I think I waited for almost a month to get the result of the DE Readiness Test
Hi, good thing that I’ve found a blog like this that has something to say with the UP Open U.
I have plans of pursuing a Master in Public Health in the UPOU, and I’ve read somewhere here that your mother(?) finished her MPH in UPOU. Did she tell you her experience? Was it ok?
Thanks!
who cares about that venture?
It is just a manifestation of yourkajoklaangyabangenge!
